About Waione

Waione Registered Coopworth Flock 32 - SIL 1207

Major Objective - a productive, robust, resilient dual-purpose flock.

The Waione flock has been interbred since the mid 1960s, when ewes screened for twinning and wool mated to Lincoln (Fl.1) and Hinenui (Fl.5) sires, formed the basis of the ram-breeding nucleus registered in 1970, supplying rams for the farm’s commercial flock.

A foundation participant in NZOSR sire reference, genetics introduced since 1985 have been reference proven, with flock selection philosophy focused on the SIL dual purpose goal traits of reproduction + survival, growth, meat, wool, and facial eczema, plus commercial suitability assisted by muscle scanning and wool sample testing.

The recorded flock has been extensively screened since establishment for FE tolerance by natural challenge GGT blood test of replacement ewes and rams. Dosing at .6 was discontinued several years ago.

Internal parasite immunity is monitored by CARLA saliva testing ram hoggets, and only high testing sires are retained for stud use.

The flock produces about 50 two-tooth rams of both SE and commercial standard for sale each year.
